Industrial discharge water treatment in Bolzano

Established in the 1930s, the Alcoa plant in Bolzano is one of the city’s historic industrial sites. At the beginning of this century it became necessary to renovate the site which is essentially divided in two parts: extrusions and foundry. As part of these renovations Euro Mec designed and realized three interconnected water treatment plants for the control of industrial water discharge.
  • Treatment of cart washing water- plant that collects and treats the waste water coming from cart and lift washing. The water collects in channels that convey it to an oil removal plant and to the final collection and treatment tanks. 120m³/day;
  • Treatment of oil contaminated water- plant that treats oily water coming from  two industrial presses. This water is pumped from the base of the presses with two 10m³/hour pumps and sent on to be treated. 250m³/day;
  • Interventions to final collection and treatment tanks- represented by an underground reinforced concrete tank divided into three compartments: sedimentation,  oil extraction and recovery. These tanks treat all cooling water as well as  rainwater collected from roofs and yards. The oil and sludge collected from the settling compartment is conveyed to the equalization tank in the cart washing WWTP. 700m³/day.
In addition to achieving the required upgrade, the interventions carried out by Euro Mec allowed the client to reuse the recovered water in the foundry and extrusion plants thereby reducing water consumption and costs.
